Personal Hygiene for Kids

Over here we discuss practices pertaining to proper hygiene for kids. Teach your children these hygiene etiquettes to help them feel good about themselves and motivate them to stay clean:

  1. Washing hands

Whether they are at home or the park, children tend to touch everything and put their hands in their mouth. Washing hands is the most effective way to prevent illnesses and stop germs from spreading. Asking children to wash their hands multiple times in a day can be really challenging because they will find some excuse to get out of it. Besides explaining them the importance of hand-washing you can make the whole process fun. A cool trick to inculcate good hygiene for kids is to get them a super-foamy soap. Also, teach them a 20-second song or limerick to sing while they wash their hands.

  2. Dental hygiene

Another critical aspect of instilling good self-hygiene for kids is to educate them about dental hygiene. Instilling healthy dental habits can prevent a wide range of health issues, including bad breath and cavities later in life. Your child should brush and floss at least twice a day. Add a song to your toothbrush routine and see your child brushing his or her teeth for the whole 2 minutes. Ensure that your child has an age-appropriate toothbrush. It’s best to brush your teeth along with your children because children see parents as their role models.

  3. Bathing

Bathing children can be fun as well as a struggle. Regular baths with mild soap help wash away germs. As such, it is essential to instill the importance of personal hygiene for children, and to encourage them to bathe or shower at least once a day. It would be best if they bathe twice a day. Make sure their underarms and genitals are thoroughly cleaned every day. To make bathing fun, have a fixed daily routine. Children love a predictable routine. A bath song and a few toys can make bathing less stressful for you as a parent and more fun for your children. Make sure they wear a fresh set of clean clothes after the bath.

  4. Sneezing and coughing

Children cough and sneeze everywhere. But germs travel far and wide. It’s important to practice good hygiene for kids to prevent spreading of the germs that cause cold and other infections. Get your child into the habit of covering their nose and mouth either with a handkerchief or tissue. If they don’t have a tissue, they should sneeze into the crook of their arm and not into their hands.

It’s important to ensure that your child follows personal hygiene practices to keep illnesses at bay. Medical emergencies in the family can be emotionally and financially draining. As such, it is essential to invest in health insurance plans.
